About Us
Excellence in Every Mechanism
GunsGamut is a dedicated educational platform focused on the science, engineering, and technical understanding of firearms and ballistics. Our mission is to provide accurate, research-driven, and structured knowledge for students, enthusiasts, professionals, and researchers interested in firearms technology.
The platform was created to bridge the gap between myth and science by presenting firearms as subjects of engineering, physics, and design, rather than sensationalism.

Our Mission
To make firearms knowledge scientific, structured, and accessible.
We aim to:
-
Provide research-based technical education
-
Explain firearm mechanics and design clearly
-
Promote responsible and lawful understanding
-
Build a comprehensive global knowledge hub for firearm science
GunsGamut is built on the belief that technical knowledge should be accurate, responsible, and educational.

Know the founders of GunsGamut
Lalit Pratim Das, M.Tech (Electrical Engineering)
Lalit Pratim Das is an engineer with over a decade of experience in the design, kinematics, and synthesis of small arms mechanisms. His work focuses on the analytical and functional aspects of firearm systems, ballistics, particularly motion design and mechanical behavior within weapon platforms.
He has served as a guest faculty member at a reputed training institute, where he imparted technical instruction to maintenance personnel, firearm users, and designers. His academic and professional background in electrical engineering also extends to specialization in electrical power system design, bringing a multidisciplinary engineering perspective to the study of weapon systems.
Dev Pratim Das, B.Sc Film Technology
Dev Pratim Das is a firearms researcher, technical analyst, and author with a deep interest in the engineering and functional dynamics of small arms. He specializes in analyzing and synthesizing the kinematics of firearm mechanisms and studying energy flow paths within weapon systems.
He possesses extensive knowledge of weapon actions, ergonomics, and firearm architecture, including the design and functional behavior of muzzle devices used for controlling muzzle blast, flash, and recoil. He has several years of hands-on analytical experience in studying firearm mechanisms and their operational characteristics.
Dev Pratim Das has also served as a guest faculty member at a reputed training institute, providing technical training to maintenance crews, firearm users, and designers.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Film Technology with specialization in animation and computer graphics design. He is responsible for the computer modelling, technical illustrations, and graphical representations of small arms featured in his work. Alongside his research activities, he is an experienced educator and graphic designer specializing in firearm visualization and technical presentation.
In Loving Memory
Prasanta Kumar Das, M.Tech (Mechanical Engineering)
Former General Manager, Rifle Factory Ishapore
Ordnance Factory Board, Ministry of Defence, Government of India
Author of Science and Engineering of Small Arms
Prasanta Kumar Das was a distinguished mechanical engineer, small arms expert, mentor, teacher, and a devoted father. He served as General Manager of Rifle Factory Ishapore under the Ordnance Factory Board, Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
With more than 28 years of experience in the field of small arms, he led and contributed to major projects involving the design, manufacturing, quality control, and testing of handguns, sporting rifles, assault rifles, LMGs, MMGs, and HMGs across multiple Indian ordnance factories. His work played an important role in advancing indigenous small arms engineering and production.
He was honored with the Best Engineer’s Award by the Ordnance Factory Board for his outstanding contribution to the successful implementation of an assault rifle project. He also received the Invention Award from the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, for his innovation in small arms technology.
In addition to his leadership roles in defence manufacturing, he served as General Manager of India Government Mint, Noida, for five years and earlier worked as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering for seven years, guiding and mentoring future engineers.
He was also the original author of the book Science and Engineering of Small Arms, a technical work that reflects his decades of experience and knowledge in the field.
Beyond his professional achievements, he was our father and our first teacher. It was under his guidance that we were introduced to the world of small arms engineering, mechanism design, and disciplined technical study. The principles, knowledge, and values he instilled in us continue to shape our work and remain the foundation of this platform.
His legacy lives on through our continued dedication to responsible education, research, and the scientific understanding of small arms.
